Rutgers vs Maryland
In the Sunday Night B1G Game of the Week, Maryland traveled up 95 to Rutgers. We were treated to a triple-overtime affair where each team had plenty of chances to end it, and each goalie made big saves to prolong the game. Maryland’s Connor Kelly sent everyone home for the night in the a little less than a minute left in the third extra session. Kelly got the ball on the wing, dodged toward GLE, and a slight hesitation left enough space between two hedging defenders that Kelly could get underneath and can a goal on the doorstep.
UNC vs Syracuse
In Chapel Hill, N.C., the Tar Heels looked like they had No. 1 Syracuse on the ropes for much of the game, but the Orange clawed back. With about 1:40 left in the game, Syracuse defenders Scott Firman and Andrew Helmer executed a successful, if desperate, double off the endline to force a turnover. A long scrum so the ball squirt out up field, where Paolo Ciferri made a clean scoop and flew down field. With most North Carolina players trailing from the scrum, Ciferri got a clean look at the cage and stuck the game tying goal with 1:19 left in the fourth quarter. The Orange went on to win on a Sergio Salcido man-up goal in OT.
